Hydroponic Supplies

Hydroponic SuppliesTo create the perfect indoor system there a few hydroponic supplies needed. Hydroponics allow for plant growth all year long without the use of soil. In order to achieve the best results a few components are required, some of the basics include trays, reservoirs, grow lights, nutrient solutions and of course a growing medium. Systems can be set up in a number of ways; there are drip systems, tray systems, ebb and flow systems, and several other options.

Hydroponic supplies can also include diagnostic and testing tools such as humidity gauges, thermometers, and pH testers. There are also testers that help measure the level of the nutrients in the solution. Keeping the plants in a controlled atmosphere with a well regulated nutrient solution will guarantee plants with the highest yield. These tools will help you monitor the environment and control outside variables.
Unless you are growing outdoors most systems will require grow lights. Lights require some accessories such as reflective hoods, fixtures and power supplies. The spectrum of the light is especially important- a plant cannot grow with the light from an ordinary light bulb! The plants also need to be a certain distance from the light to prevent burning, this means a light may need to be raised or lowered according to the plants’ growth, and most Web sites that carry hydroponic supplies will have the equipment to do exactly that.

The most critical elements of hydroponic supplies are the growing medium and the nutrient solution. Growing mediums can vary but the most commonly used material is rockwool, other mediums include clay pellets and coir fiber. The growing medium needs to hold the proper amount of moisture and shouldn’t interfere with nutrient delivery. Since no soil is used, the growing medium is also critical in anchoring the plants properly. Nutrient solutions are made by added a concentrate or a powder to water. Nutrients are available in dry and liquid forms. Some nutrients are organic, some are not. There are also a number of enhancers that you can add if you are looking for specific results.
