Hydroponic Nutrients.
Hydroponic
nutrients are created for use in hydroponic and indoor gardening. There
are about 13 elements necessary for plant growth and specialized solutions
are mixed to ensure all the nutrients are supplied. There are many recipes
of plant nutrients out there – some are even designed for specific
growth mediums.
The nutrients included in these mixes are mostly inorganic and inert –
which means they are mineral in nature (as opposed to biological) and
contain both positively and negatively charged ions. Positively charged
ions include calcium, magnesium and potassium. Major negatively charged
ions can include nitrate, sulfate and dihydrogen phosphate.
Recipes for nutrient mixes can also include combinations of micronutrients
such as iron, manganese, copper, zinc, boron, chlorine and nickel. Chelating
agents are sometimes included to keep iron soluble.
On application, plants naturally change the composition of nutrient solutions
in a variety of ways – constant monitoring is required to ensure
that salt concentrations don’t get too high, nutrients don’t
get too depleted, or pH balance too far off the mark.
Nevertheless, the nutrients really do all the work as long as the grower
maintains consistent levels within the requirements of the plants and
medium.
A quick Internet search reveals hydroponic nutrients for every situation
and growth medium with options to apply in one, two or three parts or
stages.
Dutch Master Advance advertises the “first targeted use of Krebs
Cycle Metabolites” in hydroponic plant nutrition. This mix claims
to grow and develop plants at accelerated rates because of the way it
increases the plant’s energy output.
Sensi Grow & Bloom is specially designed for dichotomous short day
plants in a 2 part + 2 part nutrient that claims a consistent, heavy yield.
B.C. Hydro is a 3 part nutrient that is professionally formulated to produce
plentiful veggie crops as well as remarkable floral growth. Canna is a
common nutrient brand. Aqua by Canna is a 2 part + 2 part nutrient designed
especially for use with inert growth mediums such as Perlite, grow rocks,
rock wool and vermiculite in non-circulating systems.
Coco is a 1 part + 1 part nutrient that is specifically formulated to
work best with a coco coir (coconut husk fiber) grow medium. Monkey Juice
is a whimsically named nutrient solution also designed to work best in
a coco coir medium.
Advanced Nutrients Connoisseur is a 2 part bloom nutrient just for flowering
plants that is described as the “Rolls Royce of fertilizers.”
It is available in two formulas and features a new form of flowering phase
hydroponic nutrients designed to produce the largest yields ever for blooming
plants in indoor gardens.
FloraNova makes a 1 part + 1 part singular combination of primary and
secondary nutrients and pH buffers that keep the nutrients water soluble
while providing micronutrients. General Hydroponics Flora Series mix is
a 3 part nutrient that is a very versatile. It allows the grower to mix
a wide range of different solutions to provide for the needs of a practically
any type of plant.
Basically there are hydroponic nutrients out there for every conceivable
combination of plant and growing medium.
